IAN DURANA

Registered Massage Therapist

Ian is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from the VaCC RMT program in 2021. He has experience in healthcare rehabilitation and has provided massage therapy at sporting events including the Vancouver Tennis Open, the World Rugby Sevens Series, the Laver Cup, and as part of the Abbotsford Canucks treatment team for two seasons.

Prior to becoming an RMT, Ian worked as a rehabilitation assistant in several healthcare settings across the Lower Mainland. In this role, he worked alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists while supporting patients with a wide range of conditions including spinal cord injuries, stroke, brain injuries, amputations, and complex neurological conditions. This time in his career working under several experienced therapists had helped shape and develop his strong rehabilitation mindset and patient-centred approach to care.

So far in his career as an RMT, he has worked with a diverse range of patients including those recovering from motor vehicle accidents, athletes ranging from weekend warriors to national and professional competitors (tennis, hockey, and rugby), as well as healthcare workers and desk-based professionals managing postural strain.

Ian understands that not everyone presents the same, therefore, treatment is individualized for your unique needs. It is important for him to work alongside his patients to aim to restore overall function, provide relief, and identify any barriers to recovery. A typical treatment with Ian could include various modalities such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, deep tissue, Swedish massage; all the while centering the sessions on bringing awareness to the areas of the body that need it most. He also emphasizes practical home care through movement, stretching, and exercise to help patients recover and return to the activities they enjoy.
